Section 1: HPs-KITT Course Information

Praboromarajchanok Institute (PBRI) is an educational institute for health
sciences under the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. Its main mission is to produce a skilled
health workforce for Thailand’s health system, focusing on primary
health care. According to PBRI strategies and policies, health graduates
must have abilities to become 1) critical thinkers 2) communicators 3) collaborators, and 4) creators; these are called “4Cs”. PBRI does not only produce skillful health workforce for the country,
but also provides academic services, conducts research, and creates healthcare
innovation for improving people’s quality of life sustainably.

Background to the Course
Important changes are taking place in health professions education with additional demands on teachers and trainers. The course serves as an introduction to these changes both for those with new responsibilities for teaching and training in the healthcare professions, or as an update for those with more experience.
The course has been designed by leaders in the field of health professions education to meet the needs of teachers and trainers from all regions of the world working across the continuum of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education.

Course outline
A series of key ideas in health professions education with a theoretical and practical foundation provides a basis for the course with participants given the opportunity to reflect on and consider their adoption and implementation in their own teaching practice. A range of education strategies is introduced and explored in relation to the five stages of a student’s engagement in their learning: interest; commitment; facilitation; future-proofing; and assessment.
